A word from the Regional Director ...
June/ July 2010 Newsletter
Sorry I have to combine the newsletters but this time of year things get fairly hectic, with traveling to Wing Ding etc. We have also been very busy working around the resort, with the many changes that have happened since the fire; Margaret’s work schedule in the resort office was also increased.
Last newsletter ( May ) I had put out a wanted ad, asking for our members to step up and volunteer for Officer positions or at least step up to assist on one of the core teams. The Officer Certification Program is available to help prepare you for a team member position, the Districts will be arranging OCPs for this fall, and we also should have this program available to our members in the Yukon & Alaska soon. Saskatchewan District will have the OCP scheduled after the Region J Rally. Also coming soon the Rider Educators will be required to attend the OCP, so sign up now and get ahead of the game. Another change will be the status of our Treasurers, as soon as changes can be completed at National level they will be designated as Officers so another chance for us to get a head start on the OCP.
Change has been very much the happening thing this year, the Officer Handbook, Rider Education Program Handbook, Leadership Training Program Guide and Membership Enhancement Handbook are all being combined into one GWRRA Handbook, this should remove a lot of the repetition and make information easier to access. All these changes are being implemented to help make our Officer and team member’s positions easier to handle and of course the main point of what we do to make things more fun for all.
I know that we don’t always accept change, especially as we get older, but things are changing, we hope to make things better for the members. So I ask that you work with the changes and see if we can build for a better future for our organization. Our Canadian Chapters already seem to accept that for us to survive we must recruit younger members and welcome our Associate members, ask for their participation and get them to give you their ideas on how to attract their age group, with their help we can have a bright future.
We do need your participation, we cannot survive without Officers and Core Team members, if you feel that you have something to offer please don’t be afraid to step forward, we will try our best to keep things fun. Remember the work load is very small if divided between many members, we cannot expect our Directors to shoulder all the work, we will make sure you are aware of what is expected, no more do we want to put a member into a position without full knowledge of what is required.
The Region J Rally is July 30th/Aug 2nd in Saskatoon, the Saskatchewan members have worked very hard on this since last year and are looking forward to hosting the event, registrations are looking good, but we always have room for more, we need your support to make this rally a success. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible.
I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to any of you that I may have dashed past at Wing Ding; I always seemed to meet up with our members as I was on my way to some meeting or appointment, so I am sorry I didn’t get the chance to spend more time.
Please feel free to contact me at any time, either on line pjc2@telus.net, or phone 250-353-7108.
